Mumbai gay flash-mob is Asia’s first
25 Jan, 2012
As part of the ‘Queer Azadi’ or Gay Pride celebrations, that’ll commence in a march this weekend in Mumbai, organizers yesterday put together a unique show- a gay only flash mob. Although gay flash mobs have become pretty common in the West, this is apparently the first time such a show has been put up in Asia.
The flash mob gathered at Marine Drive at around 6:14 in the evening and lasted for nearly six minutes. The community and media had already been informed of the event, so a small crowd had already gathered as dozens of young gay men and women who had been preparing for it for weeks put up an energetic display. Volunteers danced to songs like “Maa Da Ladla” and made a statement for equal rights for gay people by raising slogans at the end of the dance as several onlookers cheered them on.
Although the official video of the flash mob is yet to be released, video clippings of it are already being posted and shared online through the social media.
