From major fashion weeks across the world

PARIS

Belt Statement

There were some interesting belts on the Paris Spring Summer 2010 menswear catwalks, with Ann Demeulemeester doing large leather belt, Hermes placing simple but interesting shapes low on the waist, and John Galliano using layering and multiple belts to draw interest to the waistline.

Mixed Up Prints

Comme des Garcons, Dries Van Noten, and Lanvin all mixed up their prints to make for colorful looks on the catwalk.

Shine On

Lanvin and Paul Smith were two of many designers using shiny fabrics on their catwalks.

Slouching Story

The mood was lazy and slouchy for Spring Summer, seen through the loose clothing, effortless attitudes, and laid-back manners at Paul Smith, Louis Vuitton, and Dries Van Noten.

Weekend Bags

The key bag shape for men next spring is the weekend or over sized bag, seen at Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Dunhill.

LONDON

Bright Contrasts

Designers mixed bright, contrasting colours for the Spring Summer catwalks. Paul Smith mixed red and pink with a pale blue, while Josh Goot mixed coloured geometric shapes on his mini dresses.

Pleating Fancy

Unusual shapes or placing of pleating created volume and interest on dresses at Erdem, Marios Schwab, and Louise Goldin

Modern Hippie

Long skirts, peace signs, patchwork, and denim vests were part of a Modern Hippie look for Spring Summer 2010. See Twenty8Twelve and Aquascutum for styling ideas.

MILAN

Accessorized Dresses

Working from basic shapes, designers have accessorized their evening pieces with tassel trim at Dolce & Gabanna, beadwork at Gucci, and caging at Alberta Ferretti.

One-Shouldered

DSquared2, Giorgio Armani, and Emilio Pucci all presented one-shouldered silhouettes in their Spring Summer 2010 collections

NEW YORK

Outrageous Prints

Prints are bold, bright, and outrageous for Spring Summer 2010, with a lot of designers choosing to mix up different shocking prints. Anna Sui’s prints were 70s inspired, seen on mini dresses and tights, while Thakoon mixed up different colored prints in his signature draped dresses

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Betsey Johnson and Anna Sui are known for creating collections that can bring a smile, however, for next Spring Summer, “fun” is the key word in how women will be dressing. Bright colors and entertaining accessories, “styled with a smile” will feature in day and evening wardrobes, particularly for those with a sense of humour
