Mumbai is not only one of the safest metros in the country but also a liberal and accepting city. Having said that it’s also the city where people of all class, gender, sexuality come to work, play and make merry. Gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, lesbian-the city loves them all.

image009Post the Delhi High Court judgment there has been an increase in social gatherings, parties and events predominantly organized for Lesbians in the city. ‘The L Lounge’ organizes parties for lesbian women every month and is quite a hit with the dykes here. Shobhna Kumar, one of the organizing members, says, “Our main aim is to have a safe fun space for women in the city. Going forward, we are looking to organize events. However, safe, non-expensive venues in the city are hard to find. But we are constantly on the look out for such places.”. So expect more events from ‘The L Lounge’ team in the upcoming months.

image008Although Gay Bombay and Salvation Star have been organizing parties, social do’s for some time now cater mainly to gay men. On 24th January Bombay Dost organized a ‘Lesbian Short Film Festival’ which saw a bigger turn out than usual. “We try to cater to all segments of the LGBT community. But with ‘The L Lounge’ parties being a regular happening we thought the films could get the right kind of publicity. We aim to showcase at least one Lesbian movie a month in times to come.” says Vikram Phukan, an organizer and Editor of Bombay Dost.
