“Gay Travel” is a relatively new phenomenon for Indians, and India is slowly coming to terms with it. India’s first LGBT Travel Symposium just got concluded in Delhi, a host of gay travel agencies have sprung up over the past couple of years and the Goa Tourism Department was almost on the verge of including gay travel in its recent conference till it was forced to backtrack after Christian and Hindu religious groups protested.
Business and Politics apart, travelling has always been a charm that few of us can resist. And when we’re lucky enough to be in a country like India, that has always attracted travelers from across the globe with its varied culture, astounding geography and rich heritage, there is ample reason to pack our bags and give ourselves an holiday or two each year.
Our writers bring to you the best destinations of India and the world for gay and lesbian travelers. We also find out which cities are the most gay friendly today. And the results do not surprise many of us. Mumbai remains the unchallenged gay capital of India, even as other cities like Bangalore and Delhi are also having increasingly enterprising and open gay communities. In the research, we realized that although the gay party scene has exploded over the recent years, there is not a single dedicated gay bar or hangout anywhere in India, though the demand for one seems to be growing all the more. We hope by the time we compile our next travel issue, we wouldn’t need to complain about it anymore!
